What Exactly is Web 2.0?

The term Web 2.0 is thrown around to describe communities, blogging, social networks, AJAX, document managment, collaboration, and even for web designs with dropshadows that are glassy looking.

So what is Web 2.0 in terms of enterprise applications? Web 2.0 is the transition of the web from sales brochures to interactive web applications. Web 2.0 is the next move in solutions where asynchronous interaction is the norm. Web 2.0 companies are not be constrained by typical business models and strategies while folowing a sound business plan. Rich Internet Applications, which is a fancy way of saying the technology behind the content that the web surfer sees, is becoming more and more powerful. Scripting with JavaScript or Adobe Flex that allow webmasters to employ technology interact with users in real time or responses has personalized the web.

Typical surfers haven't grasped the fact that the 'Net' is not a version of a software product. In effect the has meant that Web 2.0 's definition is limited to the advance of the Net and web based business. If that means customized content and individual choice, or dynamically generated content that is ranked by community vote weighing the websites, the Internet is heading to Web3.0..
